[Workshop] Mindful Inquiry: Enhancing Psychological Flexibility & Self-Regulation
Apr 17, 2024In this dynamic workshop, participants will delve into the principles of mindful inquiry, exploring its application personally and professionally. Mindful inquiry is a method of exploring the experience of mindfulness practice through active listening, open questions, and reflections. It serves as both a mindfulness practice and a therapeutic technique. It aims to foster psychological flexibility, enhance present-moment awareness, and equip clients to manage challenging emotional and cognitive states effectively.
Participants will:
- Grasp the foundational assumptions, principles, and attitudes underpinning mindful inquiry.
- Learn to apply the inquiry method in client sessions at an introductory level.
- Incorporate inquiry as a personal mindfulness practice and a form of contemplative dialogue.
- Employ inquiry techniques to navigate distressing thoughts and emotions.
Practices:
- Mindfulness Practice with Inquiry: Engaging in breath awareness and exploring the soles of the feet and hands exercises, combined with the layered inquiry approach and reflective practices.
- Mindfulness Practice (Challenge): Delving into mindfulness exercises designed to address challenges, followed by layered inquiry and reflection.
- Listening Practice: Focusing on Resistance vs. Acceptance, Permanence vs. Impermanence, and the Personal vs. Impersonal.Come prepared to share your experiences, engage in meaningful discussions, and learn from the diverse experiences of others.
- 3 min Responsive Breathing Space + Inquiry: Skillful responding – let it be, let it go, action.
This workshop is tailored for health professionals, therapists, and mindfulness facilitators aiming to enhance their skills in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic pain. It's focused on improving client well-being and self-regulation. Additionally, individuals outside these professions seeking valuable insights into mindful practices will also find the event beneficial. Featured Speaker: Patricia Rockman MD, CCFP
Dr. Patricia Rockman is a physician with a focused practice in mental health and mindfulness-based programs. She is a curriculum developer, trainer of healthcare providers and author. She is the co-founder of the Centre for Mindfulness Studies and an associate professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Family and Community Medicine, cross-appointed to Psychiatry. She has co-authored a number of books and publications, including, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, New Harbinger, 2019. Her interests include yoga, meditation, psychedelic-assisted therapy and writing.
